Skin Care (what helped me reduce my acne and acne scars)

There are thousand of people that struggle with acne. I have struggled with it since I was a teenager, and I always thought that it would eventually go away as I got older but instead, it got worse.

Having to deal with acne and acne scars puts a toll on your confidence. It brings out a lot of insecurities. Being in your 20’s and still having to deal with acne is something hard. You stress about it causing more breakouts.

I wanted to share what has worked for me and also what didn’t work for me. Remember that everyone’s skin is different and what might have worked for me won’t necessarily work for you. However, it won’t hurt to try.

Below are my before pictures. I was struggling with a severe case of acne and it wasn’t only embarrassing but it was painful. They were painful to touch. Even when I was applying my skin care products. I was very hesitant about posting these pictures but I wanted you all to see the difference this skin care routine has made.

There’s no filter on those pictures and I have no products on. I was sad and I just couldn’t believe that that was my skin. No amount of makeup would cover it and the bumps were so visible no matter what I did to try and hide them.

First I will share what didn’t work:

Worrying!!. Being worried about it only made it worse. Mixing a lot of products. I was so desperate that I was trying out so many different skin care products. I wasn’t allowing each product to work the right way because I would get so impatient not seeing results that I would move on to the next products. Not washing off my makeup every night. I understand that there are some nights when you’re just so tired and all you want to do is go to bed. But always remove your makeup and wash your face before going to bed. You will notice the difference. Do not poke at your pimples. I love to do this. It’s the most satisfying thing, but it’s what cause the scars.

What worked:

Basically the opposite of what didn’t work. I started drinking more water and just adapted to the idea that it was going to take time. I started washing my face every night by removing my makeup and incorporating products that would target acne. I stopped popping my pimples and just let them heal on their own. My skin isn’t where I want it to be but I am not self conscious to go out in public without makeup anymore and I just feel so happy about that.

I still have bumps and dents (they might never go away) but I am just happy that the acne has clear up and now I just need to focus on the dark spots. All that is needed is patience.

Products that I used:

Neutrogena Rapid Clear Stubborn Acne Daily acne facial cleanser- $7.49

Neutrogena deep clean cream cleanser- $4.99

Neutrogena Ultra Light Cleansing oil- $8.89

Neutrogena ultra sheer sunscreen 100spf- $8.89

OleHenriksen Truth Serum- $49

OleHenriksen C Rush Vitamin C gel moisturizer- $45

OleHenriksen Banana Brightening Eye crème- $38

OleHenriksen Glow 2OH Dark Spot Toner- $28

ItCosmetics Secret Sauce Anti Aging Moisturizer- $68

Morning Routine:

Start off by washing your face. I would use the Neutrogena Rapid clear wash which is specifically formulated with Benzoyl Peroxide to attack the acne. I would then add the OleHenriksen Truth Serum (Helps with antiaging and brightens). I usually give it a minute or so to dry and then I go in with OleHenriksen vitamin C gel moisturizer (Brightens and diminishes wrinkles). I then add eye cream and finish with the sunscreen to protect my skin from further damage.

Night Routine:

I remove my makeup with the oil cleanser. It’s soft and doesn’t cause further damage. I wash off with the cream cleanser. I apply the toner with a cotton ball and give my skin a minute to soak it off. I finally add the secret sauce.

I am extremely happy and I hope that if you try some of these products that they work for you as much as they have worked for me.
